Senior Risk Specialist Platforms & Technology (interim)

You know infrastructure. You’ve built it, run it, or kept it standing at three in the morning. You’ve also noticed that the biggest risks are rarely the ones on the dashboard, they’re the assumptions nobody challenges. This is a role for exactly that instinct. Second line at a major Dutch bank, looking across a large and genuinely interesting infrastructure estate, with the mandate to ask what everyone else lets slide.

Where you’ll land:

Second line, but nothing like the version of second line you might be picturing. This is a role for someone who understands the technology deeply enough to hold their own with the engineers who build and run it and who then helps them get it right. You look over the shoulder of the teams that keep the bank’s core infrastructure and platforms running. You form your own view of what you see. You separate what actually matters from what merely looks alarming. The assignment runs during a period where resilience, secure configuration and risk-based remediation sit high on the agenda. You’ll join the Platforms & Technology risk team, six people inside the CRO IT & Cyber function within Risk Management.

Why this role exists:

Right now one team member carries more of this ground than one person can cover. You take over a substantial part of that playing field. Just as importantly, you hand responsibility back to the IT teams themselves — this is not a role where you pull everything towards you.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide independent oversight of stable maintenance and secure configuration of the core platforms and infrastructural technologies.
  • Challenge and advise first-line teams on risk posture, controls, remediation and action plans.
  • Run independent risk assessments across the key platform and infrastructure domains.
  • Review and challenge remediation plans, control improvements and risk acceptances.
  • Spot recurring risk themes and turn them into practical improvement actions.
  • Distil findings into concise reporting and sharp recommendations for senior stakeholders and risk governance forums.
  • Support maturity improvements in platform and technology risk oversight.
  • Take the lead on a topic now and then, and help the team grow with you.

What this role is not:

Not design, not implementation, not sitting inside the delivery teams, not a management role, not audit.

What we offer you:

  • A 12-month interim assignment at a major Dutch bank.
  • A competitive salary between €8,750 and €10,000 gross per month, excluding 8.33% holiday allowance.
  • Hybrid working environment, with approximately 2 days on-site in Amsterdam.
  • The opportunity to influence risk management within a critical infrastructure landscape.

What are we looking for?

Technical depth comes first here. Must-have:

  • Strong grasp of infrastructure, platforms, cloud and IT management processes.
  • Experience with Microsoft cloud services, private cloud and networking.
  • Senior-level technology experience — enough to judge what technical teams tell you and form your own opinion.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills in English.
  • Able to run at roughly 80% autonomy from the start.
  • Sharp analytical skills, sound judgement, and the knack for cutting through complexity.
  • Hands-on mindset.

Preferred:

  • Second-line experience: control challenge and senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Affinity with risk management.
  • Dutch language proficiency.
  • Familiarity with digital operational resilience, cyber resilience, IT control frameworks or regulatory expectations.
  • Experience in banking or another highly regulated environment.
  • Mainframe expertise.

Are you ready to challenge the status quo and help ensure the resilience of our critical technology platforms? We look forward to receiving your application.
