Crossroads 2020: Privacy as a revenue model

The world is digitizing at a rapid pace, with more and more data being processed. This makes privacy and data protection increasingly important. That is why the EU has a new privacy law since May 25, 2018: the GDPR. The GDPR has created Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default. This encourages that privacy safeguards are already incorporated during the development of a product or service (Privacy by Design), but it is also aimed at the standard design of a product or service in a privacy-friendly manner (Privacy by Default).

These principles prevent startups / scaleups from being confronted with privacy violations at a later stage, as Zoom has recently experienced. A privacy-friendly design of a product or service also offers opportunities, because it shows that you process data with respect for privacy and data protection, and thereby gain the trust of the user.
